Our Grade 5 French Immersion students recently took on a meaningful challenge—one that connected classroom learning to real-world concerns right here in our own community.

Students began by researching problems currently affecting our community. They explored topics such as transportation issues, the need for renewable energy, and the importance of reducing waste, among many other things. After identifying a problem, each student proposed a thoughtful, creative, and realistic solution.
To bring their ideas to life, students created dioramas—3D models that represented their proposed solutions. These creative scenes showcased ideas like solar-powered buses, bike paths, wind turbines, and community recycling centers. Many of the projects were built using recycled materials, reinforcing the importance of reusing and reducing waste in everyday life.
To celebrate and share their work, students presented their dioramas during a gallery walk open to their peers and community members. Visitors toured the exhibits, asked questions, and learned directly from the young designers.
This project brought together many areas of learning: French language development, research skills, critical thinking, design, and presentation. But beyond that, it gave students the opportunity to become active problem-solvers and thoughtful contributors to their community.
We are so proud of the creativity, empathy, and innovation shown by our Grade 5 students. Their ideas may be small in scale, but the impact they can have is huge.
